After we decided to do our research in the medical sector, we came up with the idea to focus on dentists in Munich. Therefore we were able to win two dentists over to let us join their everyday work. Dentists are surrounded by a bunch of different exciting tools and gadgets which we were allowed to investigate.
In the last two days we participated in several treatments and operations, such as root treatments, working on inlays, tooth cleaning and the time consuming CEREC procedure (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEramic REConstruction). The latter was one of the most interesing treatments, as it is a method to scan the remaining stump of the affected tooth and then create a new crown of this very tooth after rendering the taken pictures to an adaptable 3D-model.
Later we were also allowed to interview the two dentists and their assistants to get to know more about their jobs. So we were able to get precise information about tools and work flows which we didn’t get to see.
To sum it up, it was a nice and quite funny experience not to be the poor guy lying on the dentist’s rack 🙂
