In the last days, our group has spent some time with Munich’s taxi drivers at Odeonsplatz, Münchner Freiheit, Marienplatz and Max-Joseph-Platz. We expected to easily get in touch with the drivers, but it turned out to be much harder than we have thought. Finally we managed to get some interesting interview partners who were willing to tell us about their work.
Recurring problems were found across all our interviews and we were surprised to find that most of those could be solved with minor technical improvements. Furthermore it was apparent that the average taxi was equipped with multiple devices which each has their own function. For example GPS, radio, a device where dispatch can send jobs via data transfer to the driver and some use smartphones with special apps like myTaxi or Taxi.eu.
Through these interviews we got quite a good knowledge base, so we already have ideas to improve the actual situation of the taxi drivers and maybe solve some of their problems.
