User Research at a State Ministry

Group 03, User Research, WS1415

As a first step of our task to create a new service design for public services we decided to go out and take a closer look at some governmental institution – the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Forestry.

On Monday afternoon we had the chance to speak with five officials working on forestry. While sitting in the ministry’s canteen we were able to ask them about several aspects important for us to get insight into their work life: e.g. their respective responsibilities and a brief description of a typical work day. But also the technical tools they were already using, especially to communicate internally or with other departments, and existing problems they could think of spontaneously.

Thus we were able to figure out some potential fields which could possibly be improved by the creative usage of technology. Our next goal will be to analyse our collected data and think of new and innovative solutions to these problems.
