In todays increasing technological world, competition between retail stores and ever-expanding online-stores constantly grows. Therefore owners of retail stores need to think about new solutions to make their shop more attractive to customers. Here the digitalisation opens up a lot of opportunities.
We interviewed five employees of different stores, including two bookstores. We tried to explore the difficulties they face in their day-to-day life at work. Also we tried to figure out what makes the store interesting to customers and the possibilities with the help of digital media to support the retail sale.
What we noticed is that a lot of retail stores already have some kind of online presence, e.g. a website or opportunity to order online. Despite that, they’re often using old systems like Windows XP.
Our user-research was quite interesting, since we gained a good insight into the workflow of retail stores and their current state of technology.
