Our final product the “Holo Medic” is a system to improve the communication between doctors and rescue assistants. It allows doctors to see the accident through the eyes of the rescue assistant and let’s them debate about further steps to help the patient. You could say it’s a one way video with a two way audio call. In our video prototype we realised this concept with a HoloLens but it could be done with most head-mounted displays that are capable to process audio and video in real time. For the transmission we planed on using the telecommunication infrastructure, because in times of LTE sending a video stream in decent quality isn’t a problem anymore.
As one might already see one of the biggest improvements would be that the doctor can see the injuries right at the place of accident and would be better prepared for a possible surgery. Another big improvement would be the direct communication between doctor and rescue assistant so the doctor can advise the assistant to properly take care of the victim. The last enhancement is the ability to show additional information like a navigation system to get to the accident faster or information about the patient like previous injuries or allergies on the display.
The next step would be to make some more iterations of the methods we learned to further refine our concept. Afterwards we have to complete the implementation of the user interface and establish a communication end point for the doctors.
All in all, our product is nothing more than a meeting place. A meeting place for sports activities to be more exact. It is a larger pillar with a conspicuous appearance, which strikes you instantly. It has a touchpad for user input, as well as a display panel at the top. It is placed at sports grounds and parks.
The built-in touchpad allows the user to create sports events and to invite friends to join the game. SmartCourt comes with an app for smartphones, which informs users about created events. If a visitor creates a sports event, for example a simple basketball game, he has the opportunity to invite either his friends or people nearby, or both. They will be notified about the upcoming game, the time and the location via push notification and have the possibility to accept or reject the invitation. The pillar and the players, who are already on site will be informed about their decision, so they’ll know, if they have to invite more players. In addition, a display panel is installed at the top of the pillar, which can display current scores, remaining time or upcoming events.
The benefits are more than obvious. Health-promoting behavior is encouraged by fun. Sports activities are proven to be healthy and most people are having more fun, when doing sports in groups. Therefore SmartCourt provides a platform to easily meet each other. Ideally, it motivates the people to spend more time in the fresh air than at home on the sofa.
As a first and most important next step we have to figure out the must-haves and nice-to-haves, because there are so many possibilities. The locations of the pillars should be carefully selected. It is also necessary to determine whether a new social network is necessary, or whether to rely on existing social networks such as Facebook.
After doing our research for the last days it became clear to us that documentation and paperwork in hospitals could be managed a lot easier and faster. So we asked ourselves the question how we might reduce and accelerate documentation effort for doctors. As a result we introduce our prototype called Medipad.
The Medipad is an innovative tablet which is supplied with a very useful add-on. This add-on makes it possible to still write on a sheet of paper, yet the things which were written down are getting digitalized immediately. Thereby also other doctors can inspect the digital patient record straightaway and can move on with the treatment of the patient unconditionally. Doctors do not have to search for the right patient record anymore, as long as they have their Medipad with them.
So as you might have recognized, the benefits which arise from using the Medipad are that you will not lose the haptic feeling of writing on paper, nevertheless data is distributed wireless and very fast. Furthermore the recorded data will be instantly digitalized in a centralized data storage. All in all you can say that doctors can save a lot of time which can be used better in patient care.
The Medipad is an easy transition into digitalization which hopefully will be accepted by the medical staff in hospitals. To ascertain that, we definitely should do a survey so we can see whether it is well received in reality, or if not, how it could be improved.
Our team is very excited to present to you this video prototype of our solution, Medicon.
Medicon is an accessible service which allows medical and healthcare professionals to select from various types of ready-made and extensively curated informative content. Such content includes, but is not limited to, articles, explanation videos and infographics.
With these at hand, experts may compile any and all information relevant to a patient’s diagnosis into a comprehensive e-pamphlet, which may then be made available through an automatically generated QR-Code. Once a patient is in possession of said code, they may access this pamphlet from anywhere, at any time they wish, allowing them to fully inform themselves about every aspect of their respective condition.
The pamphlet itself is tied into our Medicon application, which offers easy navigation and perusal of the information specifically selected for the patient, but also additional advice and other pertinent data.
Sections of Medicon covers a large amount of topics such as causes, prevention, progression and available treatments, among many others, for common and rare medical conditions of all kinds. Not only does this breadth of knowledge help to alleviate patient anxiety, but is also capable of aiding significantly in ensuring a successful and swift recovery process by enabling patients to avoid detrimental behavior and better comply with instructions by medical personnel.
Finally, while our solution would have apparent and tangible benefits in its current form, it is far from a finished product ready for the market. Future efforts would be focused toward creating a prototype directly usable in real life situations and allowing medical staff to test it extensively. It is absolutely essential to incorporate user feedback through several iterations to improve overall usability and deliver a product that noticeably improves the quality of life of its users.

Everyone of us is affine with piracy and for each of us it is important to know where the data is being stored and who has access on it. This background thought brought us the following question: How might we empower a patient to control his own data and improve access to medical records?
The conceptual goal is clear: total unity and undisturbed communication between all health care institutions. Leaving the security by side its potential is huge. No more papers, no more physical data and no more time consuming documents picking, sending and searching.
Therefore we introduce Smart eCard, an improvement of the well-known ecard. Our eCard is equipped with a NFC chip to speed up the process during a stay in a surgery, hospital or insurance building by reading and writing the patient-customized data from/to the card. The fact that everyone is familiar with cards (for instance bank card, pay-ticket, driver licence…) made the decision about the choice of the form of our product a lot easier.
Our new concept allows patients to control their own data by storing their medical information directly on the eCard without using external data storage in each medical facility.
With the approach of storing for instance radiographs or diagnoses exclusively on the Smart eCard we mediated a wellbeing which each of us likes to have beside piracy.
In the future the eCard could be equipped with a GPS module to track the activity of the patients and store the gained information directly on the card to support further diagnoses and treatments. This extension can additionally be used to reduce the idle time in waiting rooms at medical facilities.
What use is the most effective medicine if taken incorrectly? What use is the most advanced medical technology when patients dread the sight of them? Once faced with these and several other dilemmas, our team instead decided to tackle the heart of the issue; that which brought to fall countless innovations whenever neglected: communication.
Specifically, communication between healthcare professionals and their patients.
After conducting user research and thoroughly analyzing our findings, we concentrated our efforts on ideation to build a foundation of concepts from which to continue our work. In the end, through careful consideration, only one fully addressed the issue at hand and stands as the clear winner: Medicon.
Medicon (a portmanteau of “medical” and “lexicon”) is both an application and a service designed to facilitate communication within the medical sector. It aims to eliminate misunderstandings caused by the use of complex terminology during conversation, which in turn may ease patient anxiety after diagnoses.
We enable healthcare professionals to quickly compile information relevant to individual medical cases into a comprehensive and easy-to-understand electronic pamphlet. Viewable at any time or location through a QR code, our solution strives to provide accessibility and convenience.
Over the coming days we are focused on creating a prototype to demonstrate the viability of our concept in the context of everyday interactions. To this end we created the storyboard pictured above, which we are currently translating into a video project to both inform and entertain interested parties.
After doing quite a lot of user research, ideation and brainstorming, we came up with the idea of an interactive pillar. Our main point is to make outdoor sports activities more attractive by linking it to the users social network. An integrated graphical user interface allows the user to create sports events.
Most people are more likely to do sports in groups rather than on their own. Keeping this in mind, imagine a guy playing alone on a big basketball court. By setting up pillars on sports grounds users are able to invite their friends to come and play together. Friends are notified via a mobile application installed on their smartphones and now have the opportunity to accept or reject the invitation. Their decision is synchronized automatically on the pillar and furthermore shows, based on ones GPS coordinates, the estimated time of arrival of each friend. Once every friend has arrived the game begins. As an additional feature, our pillar shows live scores by making use of sensors integrated in baskets, goals etc.
All in all, the pillar can be described as a social gathering point for people who like to do sports in groups. It encourages people to go outside, do more physical activities and therefore contributes to a more healthy lifestyle.
For the last couple of days we focused on developing our final concept by analyzing the data collected in our user research. For that various ideation tools were provided. We discovered that handwritten documentation is still very common in hospitals, sometimes they even have to document things twice because they also have to digitalize the paperwork. This causes a huge time loss. To mitigate this loss of time we came up with the idea of a digital clipboard.
By using this device, the handwriting of a doctor on a sheet of paper gets digitalized immediately and transferred to the patient file on the integrated tablet directly. As a result of that you will not lose the familiar haptic feeling of writing on a sheet of paper and save a lot of time. Furthermore colleagues can proceed with the entered patient data immediately as shown in our storyboard.
After gloriously completing our field search and the evaluation of our interviews we proceeded with different brainstorming methods to collect and rank our ideas. The biggest problems arise in the field of communication between doctors as well as between doctor and patient.
We plan on making a video about a communication system for future rescue assistants to be able to call a doctor for advise during emergency situations. This would be helpful not only during the training of new rescue assistants but also for experienced ones in more advanced situations. Another advantage would be that the medical staff at hospitals would be better prepared for incoming emergency patients and therefore could prepare for possible surgeries.
It is a highly ambitious plan but with a functioning and well educated team one can achieve everything.

Over the last week, we as a team have been working with the data collected through the numerous interviews. After an in-depth analysis, we have come to the conclusion that the communication between doctors is insufficient. Medical records of a patient are primarily saved in analog form, thus transferring records from one doctor’s office to the next is very time-consuming. Not only is time wasted, but the patient lacks control of his own records.
Team A – Storyboard
Through various breakout sessions, in which ideation techniques were used, and through many diverging and converging phases our solution, to the previously mentioned inadequate state, was formed and is called “Smart eCard”. The card is equipped with a memory chip. This allows doctors to save the patients medical records directly on the card and obtain all necessary information needed for the treatment without making patients wait or fill out forms.
